A collapsed volcanic caldera holding one of the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. Because the crater floor is enclosed, sightings are reliable: lion, elephant, buffalo and, if you are lucky, one of the few remaining black rhino. Descend at dawn to beat the convoy of vehicles, and keep an eye on the soda flats of Lake Magadi for flamingo.
