Azam Marine runs the most frequent and most polished service on the Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar corridor, with modern catamarans, assigned seating and air-conditioned cabins. Boats sail from the Azam Marine terminal on Sokoine Drive, a short taxi ride from the city centre. Economy tickets sit on the lower deck, while Business and VIP get upper-deck views and more legroom - worth the upgrade on a clear day. Check in at least 60 minutes before departure: every passenger completes a Zanzibar passenger manifest with passport details before boarding, and queues build quickly on Friday afternoons and holiday weekends.

Sailings are occasionally suspended at short notice when the harbour master closes the port in rough weather - keep a flexible morning and reconfirm the evening before. The crossing is calmest October to March.
