The standard gauge railway (SGR) is the newest travel experience in Tanzania: tilting electric multiple units, airline-style seating, onboard screens announcing the next stop, and a smooth 160 km/h glide across the Maasai steppe. The Dar es Salaam to Dodoma run compresses a former two-day journey into a morning or afternoon, calling at Morogoro under the Uluguru mountains and dodging giraffe and zebra near Mikumi. It connects cleanly with onward SGR sections toward Tabora and Isaka for Mwanza and Kigali roads.

☎ Book online at trc.co.tz or at the SGR terminal north of the city centre. E-tickets are checked with ID at the gate - arrive 30-45 minutes before departure for security screening.
Good to know
The fastest land link to the capital and comfortably the easiest way to reach Dodoma's wineries and government quarter. Luggage racks are modest - big backpacks go overhead or in the end-of-car racks. An evening service is being added as more rolling stock arrives.
